Do you live in rural Canada? If so, there is some important information for you to consider.

On this page:

Why is there an extra charge for some Canadian addresses?

FedEx applies an extra charge for delivery to rural or remote areas of Canada. Why? For remote locations, FedEx uses a third-party for the final delivery. This service can add an extra US$20–$60 to the delivery fee. To keep costs as low as possible, we only add the minimum of US$20.

How do I know if my address is considered rural or remote?

A rural or remote address will have one of the following:

  1. A postal code with a zero [0] as the second character (for example, T0C 2J0).
  2. A Rural Route (RR) address.

What happens if my address falls into this category?

Your order will be temporarily paused while we contact you. You will receive an email from us with the following options:

  • A link to pay the US$40 surcharge, or
  • The option to cancel your order for a full refund.

How can I avoid this surcharge?

If you’d prefer not to pay the rural or remote delivery fee, there are a few simple alternatives. FedEx applies the surcharge only when the destination itself is rural, so sending your package to a non-rural address can bypass the fee entirely. Do you have a family member or friend in an urban area? Any standard urban address will avoid the rural courier handoff that triggers the extra fee.
