Which shipping option is best for rural Canada?
For most customers in rural Canada, Economy Shipping is the simplest and most economical option. It avoids the FedEx remote-area surcharge and normally arrives within approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
If you need your order quickly, you may still choose FedEx Expedited. FedEx normally delivers in approximately 3 business days, but most rural and remote destinations will incur a substantial additional delivery surcharge.
How does Economy Shipping work for rural addresses?
Economy Shipping is available to rural and remote Canadian addresses without the FedEx remote-area surcharge.

What if I want FedEx Expedited?
FedEx Expedited remains available for customers who prefer faster delivery. However, FedEx will apply an additional remote-area charge when the destination is considered rural or remote. This surcharge is usually a flat US$37.
FAQ: Is my address rural or remote? A rural or remote Canadian address will commonly have one of the following: 1. A postal code with a zero [0] as the second character (for example, T0C 2J0). 2. A Rural Route (RR) address. There can be exceptions, so the final determination is based on the carrier's classification of the delivery address.
How do I know if my address is rural or remote?
The postal-code and Rural Route guidelines above are useful indicators, but not every address follows the same pattern. If FedEx identifies your destination as a remote or extended-service area, we will contact you before proceeding with any additional charge.
What happens if FedEx applies a surcharge?
If you selected FedEx Expedited and your address triggers a remote-area surcharge, we will contact you before shipping. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to:
- Pay the additional FedEx surcharge and continue with expedited delivery,
- Switch to Economy Shipping, or
- Cancel the order for a full refund.
